My day trip to Liège was a whim inspired by this view out the window of the night bus from Paris at approximately 2 am.
After I determined that I was in fact alive and located somewhere in Belgium, I snapped a picture of the mysterious structure to look up later. As it turns out, the whale bones of death were actually a train station designed by one of my favorite architects - Santiago Calatrava. (I may have a few too many pictures of his Sundial Bridge in California taking up space in my computer......and the walls of my bedroom at school.)
Going on a Sunday, I knew a lot of places in Liège would be closed. Turns out almost all of them were. What I didn't expect was a continuation of the being surprised by beautiful pedestrian bridges theme.
